Obama is clearly determined to shave delegates off Clinton's lead in her home state. He's poised to win Connecticut. And he's threatening in New Jersey and that's nothing new.
I have been volunteering for Obama's campaign for several months now in central NJ. Here's a sampling of what I've done in recent weeks:
- Last week I was scheduled to work the table at the local mall. Too many volunteers showed up so I went home.
- Two weeks ago we conducted a phone bank. About 30 people showed up. We ran out of seats. I had to call from my car.
- Today I was scheduled to canvass in Princeton. Yesterday I got an email saying that there were too many canvassers scheduled in Princeton. So I went to the next town over and canvassed there.
So basically, when I go to volunteer for Obama, they say "take a number". There is palpable passion for Obama all over New Jersey. Clinton may win because Gov Corzine and Senator Menendez spinelessly endorsed her months ago before giving anyone else a chance, but Obama has a real chance to make strides in New York and its border states.
The early returns on Tuesday will be telling.
