The Obama PA Project: 1 Week Left

Tue Mar 18, 2008 at 05:27:31 AM PDT

Pennsylvania will be won in what is now the next SIX (aka 6) days. I wrote a diary last week to help call attention to this, often confusing, rule.

This is because only registered Democrats can vote in Pennsylvania on April 22nd. And the deadline to change party affiliation is March 24th. Monday, MARCH 24TH! Six days from this one.

Please rec this diary up one more time because this is critical information for actually winning the primary in Pennsylvania.  We need to make sure that every possible Independent and unregistered Democrat in PA has a chance to vote for Barack Obama in April.

I've canvassed the past two weekends in PA, targeting independent voters. It is clear to me that even though Obama is lagging in the polls among PA Democrats, the unaffiliated voters are leaning Obama's way, as usual. I knocked on 59 doors on Saturday and spoke with about 15 different people. Although many were still undecided, all but one was open to the idea of voting for Obama. (The other said, "Obama's a Muslim! And did you see what his pastor said." Gotta love canvassing).

Anyway, the goal here is simply to make as many people as possible aware of this rule before it's too late. It's often the case that the younger one is the more likely one is to be unaffiliated. And it's always the case that the younger one is the more likely one is to support Obama.

Obama's site let's you register here:

OR, you can get the voter registration here - you gotta print, sign and mail:

For the record, of the remaining primaries, the following are also closed to registered Democrats, so make sure you declare an affiliation if needed: North Carolina, South Dakota, Oregon, Kentucky. West Virginia, Montana and Indiana are all open primaries.

The

World

What else is there to be done in March? (Okay, there's basketball. But changing the world is important also).
